What Hollywood’s Sexiest Actors Can Teach You About Being Attractive to Women

January 7, 2008

In my opinion, Hollywood actors and celebrities can teach us a bunch about what women find attractive in men. Make no mistake about it, most of these guys are extremely good looking…but we can learn some tips from these guys if we observe them. So let the observations begin!

[Here is a Matt Damon Impersonating Matthew Mcconaughey]

Time to take a break from “sets and reps”. If I do nothing but talk about technical stuff, I am going to bore you senseless. I make posts all the time about being physically attractive, let’s talk about other pieces of the attraction puzzle.

Matt Damon
Matt Damon playing football

Matt Damon Shows Us It’s Okay to Be A “Guy’s Guy”

You know what is cool about Matt Damon? He reminds us of our college buddy. He is a beer drinking, sports watching, and just plain fun guy. All of us have friends like this. He is your friend that clowns on you for going to be early on a Friday night. He is the same guy who will help you move furniture on his day off. I think women really find him attractive, because he is really comfortable being himself. He doesn’t seem like he is trying to impress anyone. Very few people have the capability to really show strangers their true personality. Matt seems to have this down.

Will Smith
Will Smith smiling
Will Shows Us That Smiling Makes Everyone More Attractive

Guys don’t smile enough! I need to work on this one. When you are with your friends you probably smile a lot more than when you are amongst strangers. Smiling makes you a more desirable human being. If you want to come off as the “bad boy”, that is fine…you still need to smile, but smile in a mischievous way instead. I think it is funny when people try to look tough by not smiling, or look “sophisticated” by not smiling. Will is always smiling which makes him even more attractive to women than he already is. Can you imagine him looking serious all the time? I guarantee you that women wouldn’t find him as desirable!

Johnny Depp
Johnny Depp in sunglasses
Johnny Depp Shows Us That Being Mysterious Is An Attractive Trait

Johnny Depp does an incredible job of being a bit of mystery. When you meet a new woman, you don’t want to tell her your life story right off the bat. It pays to hold back at times. Johnny Depp has a great “bad boy” vibe. Even his smile is kind of a smirk (in a good way). His way of dressing and funky style adds even more to the mystery. Don’t make the mistake of “blending in” and looking like everyone else at a social event. Stand out in a good, yet “mysterious” way.

Orlando Bloom
Orlando Bloom pretty boy
Orlando Shows Us That Tons of Women Dig Pretty Boys

There aren’t too many guys who are naturally as good looking as Orlando. If you have this type of male model looks, then don’t try to downplay them by getting bulky and wearing baseball hats, etc. Dress like a model, spend money and get a great haircut, wear the latest fashions, etc. Other guys poke fun at pretty boys, but mainly because they wish they were naturally as good looking. Guys like Orlando date massive amounts of beautiful women. He would look stupid if he tried to bulk up, get a goatee, etc. Other famous pretty boys include Leonardo DiCaprio, Freddie Prinze Jr, and Ashton Kutcher.

George Clooney
George Clooney in suit in ocean's 11
George Shows us to Get Better With Age, Like Fine Wine

Age is no excuse to let yourself go. If you dress well and stay in great shape you can look good your entire life. The great thing is that the older you get, the less attractive people there are at your age. If you commit to staying fit your entire life, you will look better than 99% of the people around you who are in your age bracket. Heck…if you get really fit and really take care of yourself, you will look better than people 15-20 years younger than you. If you stay slim, your face won’t sag as you get older. This is a HUGE key to looking good as you age.

Matthew McConaughey
Matthew Mcconaughey no shirt at beach
Matthew McConaughey Shows Us to Never Wear a Shirt!

Obviously I’m messing with ya (see the Matt Damon video above…it will make sense). What is great about Matthew is that he does what he wants. He seems like a guy who follows his own path in life and doesn’t care about what people think. Women like guys who aren’t just trying to say and do what they think women want to hear. Matthew has an attitude of “take me or leave me, I could care less”. The ironic thing about “not caring” is that this is the point where women will begin to “care for” (be attracted to) you.

As Always…Send Me Your Comments!

I’d really enjoy hearing from a bunch of the female readers especially. Just a reminder…your posts won’t show up immediately until I approve them. I usually moderate my comments early in the morning and late at night. I really love hearing from all of you!

Cool article rusty…think I’ll go out today with a bit more mystery, and I really do need to smile more.

Greetings from Hong Kong,
So I’ve really got to hand it to you Rusty…you convinced me to get in shape many months ago, and then you convinced me to stop exercising over the holidays, but little did you know that I’d be traveling after the holidays for a conference and be unable to resume exercising right away…

And I have to admit…I didn’t think it was possible, but I’ve been off of regular exercise and my usual diet for almost a month and have maybe put on another 2 lbs (max). But I’m still somehow rocking decent overall muscle tone and a well-defined six pack. What have you done to me? What happened to the old me? Thank you, thank you, thank you, tha…

Now I’ve been doing some push-ups, planks, running-in-place-ish-cardio once or twice a week, I have to admit…but it’s truly nothing compared to what my usual routine was. I’ll be returning to Boston soon and will, of course, go back to my normal exercise and diet schedule, but as I said above: thank you, I have no idea when or how it happened, but I must be in some serious shape thanks to you. I’ve lost over 20 lbs in the last 5-6 months, most of which came off in the middle 2-3, and the skin shrank to my build in the last 1-2 months as you promised.

Seriously, if anyone is reading this stuff and is wondering if this guy’s advice is worth anything…it is the only source of fitness info that filters the BS and hype out and gives you detailed advice about how to achieve a specific look that I’ve ever come across on the web or anywhere.

Tom January 7, 2008 at 6:25 am

Hi Rusty,

As always, your article makes ALOT of sense! I was wondering… I’m a big fan of Ryan Reynolds, and I always thought he epitomised the ideal male figure, he simply oozes sex appeal. My question is, would you consider his muscle mass too excessive? I am a similar height to him, and looking like Ryan Reynolds is my goal. Would you happen to know what his body dimensions are? At times he does look very very bulky!

Thanks,
Tom

Alex,

The sexy young hotties need to watch out. They won’t know what hit em’ 🙂

Burak,

Thanks for the incredible testimonial. I really enjoy it when people get incredible results. See…I really just want all of you to be sexy as hell! Let’s make the world a better looking place! You have lost a lot of weight, my friend. Great Job!

Tom,

Ryan Reynolds looks tremendous. If you end up looking like Ryan, you will have achieved physical perfection. He actually is lot lighter than what he appears to be in pictures. His incredible muscle tone just makes him look bigger. He is a great role model…plus he is kind of a smart-ass which makes him fun to watch in movies. Good Call!

i’m a young, attractive woman and i have to say that – as usual – you’re spot on rusty! one thing i would add is this – if you are making eye contact with a woman from across a room or at a bar or club or even on the street, and it’s that extended eye contact that’s full of chemistry then APPROACH HER. my friends and I talk about this all the time!! youre generally NOT misinterpreting her interest in you!
i know, i know, its cliche and very old-fashioned but girls still do want to be approached by guys, and so few men have the guts to do it. it’s a bonus if the guy is good-looking and in great shape 🙂

Stacy January 7, 2008 at 7:13 pm

Hello Rusty, I just wanted to say that I love your site and wanted to ask you, and this may be a stupid question, but do you think females should or should not work their chest? I used to do chest exercises, but I”ve heard from some people that it is not necessary for women to work their chest, so I’m thinking great, less work for me. . I was just wondering what you thought about it. Thanks for all the valuable info, I especially love the HIIT cardio and planks. I had heard of planks before but figured it was necessary to suffer through horrible crunches. Not that planks aren’t touch, but I prefer them much more over crunches.

Jennifer January 7, 2008 at 9:01 pm

Rusty, you totally have these guys nailed down to a tee! I used to date a guy that looks like Orlando, but I actually think he was BETTER looking…mind you I was into him at the time, so that may contribute to temporary attractiveness syndrome!

Coming from a woman’s perspective, men that smile are incredibly sexy. There is something refreshing about a person that doesn’t take life too seriously (but is obviously doing well enough in life to actually smile =)

Out of all the guys listed here Johnny is my favorite because I love his lips and jaw line…perfection! Also, Matt Damon is the type of guy you want to get dirty with!! Take that however you want but I mean in a sporty way…really…

admin January 7, 2008 at 10:17 pm

Katie,

Approach a girl…but girls can be scary! Just kidding of course. The funny thing is that ALL guys are guilty of not approaching girls as often as we should. I’m as guilty as anyone. It is really easy to rationalize not approaching and listen to that little voice..”she probably has a boyfriend, what would I say, etc.”. The sad thing is that we have nothing to lose and everything to gain. The ironic thing is that the so called “creepy” guys have absolutely no fear of approaching girls at all.

Stacy,

My website loves you! It was just talking about you earlier today 🙂 it told me “that Stacy girl sure types great stuff”! Okay…I’ve lost my mind…to your question. About working the chest, probably not necessary for most women. You want to stay soft and feminine in the booby region (I am so scientific at times), so I wouldn’t recommend it. Planks are a great, great, exercise. You will get fantastic looking abs by doing them. They are especially good for women, since they develop a really natural, not overly muscular mid section.

Jennifer,

People who smile are just better to be around. Like you, all the girls I hang with all really dig Johnny Depp. Matt Damon is a person that both guys and girls generally like. If my sister was single, I would want her to date a guy like Matt Damon. All the girls I know love Ryan Reynolds as well.

Anyways…thanks a bunch for the comments, you guys add a ton to this site and I really appreciate it!

Jules January 8, 2008 at 9:09 am

Hi Rusty!
I’m definitely with you on the smiling part, because common, if you look up and see someone flashing you a genuine smile, at least i know I can’t help but smile back! Also when a guy has that laid back confidence, NOT the “i need to be loud and the center of attention” (big turn off for me) but the kind of guy who’s comfortable talking to anyone. Very attractive.
The most incredible, most attractive guy i’ve ever known would just be hanging out, and if he noticed someone, anyone – didn’t matter who, who looked like they felt out of place, he’d just stroll up, grab them a beer and start chatting with them to make them feel completely welcome.

on a totally different note, i FINALLY started doing HIIT on the treadmill and am hooked! (im at the point where i can run 7-9 miles three times a week, but wouldn’t push myself to work on speed on the other days cause I always thought i hated the treadmill…not the case!) just thought i’d share because reading everyone’s results really was the motivation for me! so thanks all!

admin January 8, 2008 at 10:59 am

Jules,

HIIT makes your treadmill workout fun (in a painful sweaty way). What I like about it is that time goes by quicker when doing this workout…the time flies when doing the walking part of it, doesn’t it? I always think “wow that minute went by quickly…it is already time to sprint again”.

You will begin to get to the point where you will “feel” a serious metabolism boost for many hours after your HIIT workout. This is when you will reach new levels of fat loss.

Great to hear from ya!

lorna January 8, 2008 at 11:10 pm

I love this article! My favorite is Johnny Depp who is an incredibly great actor and much of his mysterious personality adds into the diverse roles he plays. Not to mention he is very lean which makes him lively and light on his feet. For this reason I think he makes the perfect Jack Sparrow. Imagine someone bulky like Brock Lesnar or John Cena playing the role? Yuck. Keep it up, Rusty!

admin January 9, 2008 at 2:43 am

Lorna,

Thanks…you know what is funny is that there are two younger guys in my gym that look like Abercrombie models. They are toned and look great and have cool messy surfer hair, etc. They have a really good look and it is obvious that girls dig these guys.

Anyway…they have this dorky personal training who wears shirts that say thing like “Lift Big or Go Home!” He tells them that to look really good, they need to add 30-40 pounds of muscle! What sucks is that I think they look up to this guy and want to get “Buff”. I know that they are going to probably add a bunch of bulk and ruin their look. One of the big reasons I created this blog was to try and talk guys out of this mindset. It really helps when women like you comment and reinforce the idea that it isn’t a good idea to gain as much muscle as humanly possible.

Thanks for the great insight!

Rusty

PS: Another reason I created the site was to fill the world with more beautiful women. In fact, I want everyone to be more attractive…Is that such a bad goal?

Ron January 9, 2008 at 3:36 am

I think I’d like to steal Orlando Bloom’s clothing style. I think that’d suit me. No pun intended.

DangeRuss January 9, 2008 at 4:05 am

You helped convince me that I should try to be lean and strong instead of jacked. I like to think of it like this “I’d rather be able to move a mountain than to look like one”.

When I started working out about 1.5 years ago i went from being 150 to 175, after a while i even got up to 180, but I had an unattractive stomach and little definition in my muscles. Now, thanks to you and my best friend, I am at 160 lbs. and an estimated 12% bodyfat. I have a pretty nice four pack and am working to get down to 8%bf and get my six pack. All I have left to lose is the little bit covering my lower abs and my obliques.

I have calculated that I need to intake about 1280-1600 calories, but I’m trying to do the warrior diet so i eat one fruit for breakfast, and a chicken sandwich on my break at work, and then after i workout I’ll eat whatever mom cooked for dinner, tonight was roast beef, potatoes, and carrots…yumm. But I think i’m only taking in around 1000 calories, is this a problem?

Also what are the best forms of cardio? I hate running but i’m forcing myself to do HIIT. I’m trying to get the Brad Pitt look but with tons of strength. I really wanna look like Batman, Captain America, or the Punisher, but they aren’t real.

Love the site man.

-Russ

admin January 9, 2008 at 2:59 pm

Ron,

Orlando is a sharp dresser, so he would be a good role model in that sense.

DangeRuss,

First of all…I want a cool screen name like that! I have people with all sorts of cool screen names posting on my site…”DangeRuss, DownSouth, Gators, Tyler Durden, etc.”…You guys remind me of fighter pilots!

As far as calories go. It is okay to have some days as low as 1,000 and other days closer to 1,600. What you will find is that there are certain days when you feel like you don’t need as many calories. Once you get to your target weight, you will probably want to eat more, but then again, you may like the way the lower calories make you feel.

For cardio, stick to HIIT most of the time, but throw in 1-2 days per week where you just jog at a fast pace for 30-45 minutes.

You know Batman is Real! Common!

Rusty

Alethea January 10, 2008 at 1:47 am

Matt. Damon. Pretty much settles why I love your site.

admin January 10, 2008 at 2:04 am

Alethea,

Yeah…I try to have the best role models on this site for both guys and girls. Matt is doing really well right now, which is great because he seems like a great person.

ahhhh…nothing is more sexier than an older man who can PTS!!!(PRESERVE THE SEXY!!!)…WE WOMEN LOVE THAT!! THE CLOONEY can probably bag a chick AT ANY AGE!!…my God, George Clooney Definitely leads that pack in the Fine Wine catagory..you picked all the right guys for all the right reasons too…Does your sister help you out with this because u right on point babe!

Quinn January 13, 2008 at 4:33 pm

This are all my favourite guys, including Ryan Reynolds! Yummy post, and I agree with everything you had to say. Absolutely, guys AND girls, if you want to meet the cutie at the bar, do yourself a favour and just say hello! It’s scary, but try to think of it as simple friendliness, not a big thing. The worst thing that can happen is the object of your attention doesn’t respond, and would you really want to be with someone like that anyway? How would they treat you in the long run? It’s a real litmus test!

admin January 14, 2008 at 2:10 am

ladylonglegz,

My sister didn’t tell me any of this stuff. I’m extremely observant and I have a bunch of female friends…girls talk like crazy, you just have to listen a bit…and learn to read “girl code”…I’m not fluent, but pretty close 🙂

Quinn,

Great tip on saying hi. I think all of us need to say “hi” more to strangers…even if you have no motive to date them. It would be nice if the world was a friendlier place. It isn’t bad, but I know all of us could be friendlier…myself included.

Hi Rusty,

As a mentioned early i’m using Will Smith as a hollywood fitness mentor/icon. FYI i’ve been watching some of his older DVDs in the last few days (Bad Boys 2, Ali and Enemy of the State) and finding it not just enjoyable bad very motivational.

p.s. just wondering what you think of Russell Crowe as a potential hollywood fitness mentor. (i thought he looked fanatasic in Gladiator and Cinderella Man) I love his acting and his bad boy attitude and he hasn’t lost his aussie larakin way.

admin January 21, 2008 at 6:45 pm

Hulbs,

Russell Crowe isn’t a bad role model at all, but I bet you will be able to get in better shape them him at some point. Once you believe you are in better shape, then you will have to choose someone else as a role model.

My favorite movie of his? A Beautiful Mind…I love that movie!

Rusty

Hulbs January 29, 2008 at 5:35 am

Good Point Rusty,

In fact in the 9 days since the above post i’ve lost another couple of punds and more bf! so i’m starting to think i need to set my sights nice and high!

I also loved beautiful mind! I’m a sucker for those thoughtful type flicks!

p.s. I saw I am Legend for the 2nd time last night and love it again. Will is the man!

Hulbs February 9, 2008 at 4:33 pm

Hi Rusty,

I watched Gladiator again recently and I must admit that Russell Crowe was in okay shape but not anywhere nere as good as i thought when i first saw it. I mean he had good muscle size but lacked good definition. Still a greta movie!

I think Will and Brad are the role models for me as far as fitness/body look to strive for.

Anne March 6, 2008 at 5:55 pm

Hi! I’m plump and although I would really like to be thinner, would it not be boring if we were all tall, thin and toned like models. While I appreciate the fact that you want to help people look better so they feel better about themselves I think you are a little to much into the superficial aspect of things. The body fat percentage for men seems on the low side. Just thought I could give you something to think about, it’s positive criticism , would’nt you agree. I’ve been attracted to the pudgy intellectual, short yoga guy, the regular good looking guy etc… I have to say that everyone has seen me at my worst, and I can look somewhat attractive if I try. I just don’t like the fact that people are going to talk to you because of your clothes and looks… Not my crowd . The ugly plump chick Ha ha ha

admin March 7, 2008 at 12:31 am

Anne,

I know that being thin isn’t everything it is just the focus of this blog. If it was an investment blog, we would talk about nothing but money. I talk about being thin and attractive in a light-hearted way for the most part. I know there is a lot more to life.

Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful 🙂

Your site was an amazing find, and I have already perused a number of your entries. Personally, I love Matt Damon (The Bourne movies are a a personal favorite), and I agree with your comments on how he comes across as being a “guy’s guy”. I just wanted to make a suggestion. As a tennis player myself, abd even though he is not a “hollywood celebrity”, I think Rafael Nadal, the current number 2 player in the world, would be a great addition to either this list or the “fitness studs” list. As an aspiring tennis player, I find his physique well suited to tennis (strength with mobility and flexibility), and it obviously looks great too.

Jason,

I was told by someone, not to pursue making a “fitness site” because nobody would ever find my site in the “sea of fitness sites”. I’m glad I didn’t listen to them!

Great minds think alike…I already featured a picture of Rafael on this post: Rafael Nadal

Thanks for reading. I will work hard to keep delivering great content. I appreciate the comments!

And I appreciate that you try to reply back to comments. Just so you know, it makes the readers feel like you really do care about them, which is a good thing because it keeps us coming back.
And wow, you beat me to it. Thanks for letting me know about the that post!

You bet…I write this stuff to help you guys. I’m lucky to have a group of readers that comment. It takes a while to get back to people sometimes, but I do my best to reply to the majority of comments.

haha guys and their admiration for ryan renolds. my boyfriend envy’s him as well… but i think the biggest points in being sexy for guys is definately being yourself, knowing how to respect women, and to be funny. my add ons are adventurous and manly looking. and guys with styleeee.

Colloidal Silver October 21, 2010 at 2:15 pm

You couldn’t have said it better men do look attractive and they do turn women on no matter how they are turned out, as women have different tastes of what they want from men and vise versa!! I was really impressed by the actors in Hollywood who really are sexy and can give you a few tips of how attractive they can be to women!! I will pass on this one to a few friends who will definitely find it amusing!!

Michael December 10, 2010 at 3:53 pm

Like George Clooney, Denzel Washington is another man who has aged well and got better with age. He’s what i want to look like when i’m 54. Youthful face, Hopefully still a full head of hair, and in decent shape.
