I Admire Patrick Swayze and Hope He Goes “Dalton” on his Pancreatic Cancer

March 9, 2008

Patrick Swayze is one of those guys who doesn’t seem to age. He has been in outstanding shape for his entire movie career, which spans close to 30 years. He is a Hollywood icon and has been in some great movies. I was saddened to hear this week, that he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I felt absolutely compelled to do a post on Patrick Swayze, because he has certainly touched a lot of our lives. Here are some outstanding clips of him over the years.

[Road House could be one of the best “cult classics” of all time. It is so bad it is good. This is my favorite scene by far. This is a “must see” movie in my opinion.]

Patrick Swayze is 55 Years Old and Looks Outstanding!

This website focuses on health and fitness, so I wanted to do a paragraph about the outstanding shape he has maintained for over 30 years. Have you ever seen Patrick Swayze looking flabby or out-of-shape? Me neither! I can only think of a couple of other actors who have stayed in top condition year round for this period of time (Willem Dafoe and Clint Eastwood). Patrick was a football player and gymnast in high school. He got a football scholarship to college, but suffered a major knee injury that made him turn to acting. Even though he decided to turn to acting, he has maintained his athletic physique for all of these years. He actually has a build similar to Bruce Lee, in my opinion…nothing but lean functional muscle without any excess bulk whatsoever.

[Here is a cool clip that highlights the fight scenes from The Outsiders…Patrick Swayze’s first big role. There are several other guys in this movie that became HUGE Hollywood Actors. It is fun to see what these guys looked like 25 years ago.]

Patrick Swayze is one of those Guys Who is “Ironically Cool”

What I mean by that is that he isn’t the most outstanding actor and he knows it. He isn’t afraid to poke fun at himself and doesn’t seem to take himself too seriously. He is very similar to William Shatner, David Hasslehoff, and Christopher Walken. Deep down most of us really enjoy all of these guys. They are a touch corny and they know it. I enjoy watching Patrick as well as the rest of these guys, because they add their unique flavor to any role. Let’s be honest…who could have played “Dalton” on Road House better than Patrick Swayze? What would Dirty Dancing have been like without Swayze playing Johnny Castle? Make no mistake about it…Patrick defined a lot of these roles.

[Red Dawn…one of my favorite movies of all time…”Wolverines”!]

Dirty Dancing. Every Girl Raised in the 80’s LOVES this Movie!

I have yet to meet the girl who grew up in the 80’s who dislikes Dirty Dancing. I’m sure she is out there, but I haven’t met her yet. There was something magical about this movie. I can’t really pinpoint why it is so good, but it had that “it factor” that really made it one of the most memorable movies of the 80’s. I remember leaving the theater and there was a kind of “buzz” in the air…Top Gun has the same thing going for it. Movies like this made you feel more alive for some reason. Dirty Dancing to this day is an outstanding movie and there is no doubt that it is Patrick Swayze’s best work.

[Every Girl wanted to be Jennifer Grey back then…”Nobody puts baby in a corner!”]

Dalton, It’s Time to Kick Some Ass!

I hope Patrick kicks some serious ass on his pancreatic cancer. Miracles do happen and Patrick Swayze is the man to make them happen!

I wish Patrick luck too. I have also noticed that he is always in top shape and respect him for that.

On a side note, Rusty, I must say most of the movies you mention in your blog are also among my favorites. You’ve got good taste in cinema, buddy! Thanks for the post.

Patrick’s mom owned a dance school and this is where he learned how to dance! This article just goes to show you that everyone can do their part to stay healthy, but we have to live life to its fullest each day because we can’t control everything about our health, and unfortunately it can change in the blink of an eye.

I hope he survives, like i do hope that everyone sick survives, health and Life are the most precious things, and we do tend to forget about it. I also believe miracles do happen, let´s hope for one. I’ve read about it yesterday on the news, the doctors said there’s still hope. I hope they’re right.

I have been thinking about Patrick since I heard the news. He does stand out in every movie he’s in. He may not be the best actor in the world but you don’t care because he is so charismatic.

I have been thinking positive thoughts for him. It’s strange how you can often forget about someone until something like this happens. I don’t know him personally but feel real concern for him.

Also, “Point Break”! This movie is such a no brainer but I love it.

He was also in Donnie Darko.

i agree!! dirty dancing is a great movie. patrick swayze doesn’t get enough acclaim like brad pitt, matt damon, etc., for aging so damn well and he should. i really hope he gets better … 🙁

Yavor,

Thanks a bunch. I really enjoy great movies…it is a form of art on my opinion. Patrick was such a unique actor. I certainly don’t know him, but know he has been married to the same woman since before he was famous…I like faithful people who don’t change just because they get famous. He seems like sort of guy to me.

David,

I forgot about Point Break! That was a great, great movie! Dang…now I want to watch that now!

Good positive comments guys!

I always though Swayze was in good shape too.. Good role model for a balanced lean body

Point Break, one of the best and glad there was never a sequel!!
3 of Swayze’s quotes from the movie…
BODHI: Not tragic to die doing what you love. You want the ultimate thrill, you gotta be willing to pay the ultimate price.
BODHI: Life’s sure got a sick sense of humor, don’t you think so Johnny?
BODHI: Time to dance with the universe. I could never handle a jail cell. You’ll do this for me, won’t you Johnny? Haven’t I earned this much?

He’s an icon, let’s hope he makes it through

Patrick Swayze is a true example of someone who has taken care of himself and stayed on top of the game. He is an awesome actor, dancer and has remained true to himself. He also has stayed married for a over 20 years to the love of his life. He is positive example to all Hollywood types! I hope he can fight his cancer. He is a strong person!!!

Sandy,

I LOVE “Roadhouse”…I like it when he gets his tires slashed and has tired in his trunk, because he expected it to happen…”I thought you’d be bigger, Dalton”.

I found your website today and I practically spent the whole evening reading through it! There is so much substance which is so simply put.
Also,I am impressed by the number of posts and that you answer all readers and their comments.
Kudos!

I send out good wishes to Patrick Swayze too and will be a loyal reader of your website.

Shailja,

Thanks for becoming a regular reader. So many fitness sites are simply bland. They probably have good info, but so boring it feels like reading a text book. I really appreciate the comments. I also love it when readers interact with each other.

Welcome!

Hi Rusty,

Just got back from Thailand last night. I had no idea re. PS having cancer until I read it on your site.

Really sad news but lets hope he can kick it as he’s such an awesome guy and has always been in amazing shape for so many years.

I’m also a 80’s PS movie tragic! I loved Road House, Point Break and don’t tell anyone but even DD!

Hi Rusty,

Did you hear the great news re. PS. Sounds like he is a real fighter as far his big battle against the dreaded C word. The below article says he’s put 20 pounds back on and is well enough to start filming his new show.
