Rusty,
Do you think this plan is kinda like the Somersize program? Suzanne Somers is an advocate of never mixing fat with carbs. I have her books (of course, full of dust after all these years), so it would be nice to mix up my boring diet now (Warrior style diet). I miss having breakfast and lunch, especially on the weekends.
Thanks!

Wow. Almost every article you have written has helped me achieve the body I want. Thank you for really putting the information I needed into an easy format that is easy to follow. Even books that drag on hundreds of pages don't get the message across as well as you do. Thanks for making this website!

Alot people believe that pasta is a really bad carb, but according to the GI scale all pastas are around 40 or 41. What do ya think? I do agree with you about the low gi carb thing: as long as there low on the GI scale (55 or below) than you can eat alot of them.

Keith,

You can eat a lot of carbs if they are low GI carbs. The main reason to limit carbs in the first place is to limit blood sugar spikes caused by High GI foods.

Love your site but i was wonderin if it was ok to eat a modearte amount of carbs, but all those carbs are low GI carbs. There is a diet called the low GI diet that supposebly works really well. Is this a good plan? Thanks

Tom,

Beckham eats low cal most of the time and low carb. He has stated this in several interviews. This helps him maintain a lighter weight...which makes him agile on the field.

I don't really buy into this whole "carb craze". Virtually all of the top athletes in the world absolutely thrive on carbs because they need it to fuel their bodies. If you think people like David Beckham and Ronaldo are watching their carbs, you are out of your mind. These guys see it as the main source of energy production. Train like and athelete, eat like and athlete, look like an athlete.

You can eat those 30 grams of carbs after training and it shouldn't have any negative effects on your carb-cycling plan...especially if you are doing bodyweight circuits in the afternoon.

Rusty,

I need your opinion on something. I love the idea of carb cycling but for some reason when I have no carbs at all I get dizzy, fatigued, and mentally drained. If I have just a small serving of oatmeal with breakfast I feel great the whole day. Would having this oatmeal which is 30 grams of carbs effect my fat loss? I do cardio first thing in the morning before breakfast and do bodyweight circuits in the afternoon. Thanks

Diana,

Yeah...I like the idea of eating less meals and eating a bit more per meal. While keeping the overall calories low. I also recommend people exercise in a fasted state to insure that most of the energy comes from body fat reserves and not food energy (another reason I don't endorse eating every few hours).

I have no idea how people eat 6 meals per day and stay lean...unless they eat tiny meals and never have a "real" meal. A very unrealistic approach in my opinion.

"Moderate carbs and low calories"...I agree completely! Good call.

I agree with the bingeing on the low carb. That started a binge/gain/ lowcarb diet/binge cycle for 4 years for me. I have just now learned carbs are not the enemy, calories are! Its still difficult for me not to attempt south beach, since I orginally lost a lot of weight and felt great on it. But the quality of life with moderate carbs and low calories is far far better!

Hello Rusty

i really love your site and i also have a couple of questions for you :)

Im 22 years old, professional athlete (soccer player). 180 cm, and 84 kg. Bodyfat around 15%. My goal is to get the best looking body i possibly can, and by that i mean lean. So i want my bodyfat% as low as i can. I also want to perform well at the same time, thats why i think the 3 days low carb, and 1 day high carb will work. My weight goal is around 78kg and i think what will be the weight when i loose all my fat. So the questions are...

Im eating Paleo style now and i am fat adapted. Im also experiencing with IF and i think its really great. Im doing the 16/8 hour way. sometimes 18/6 etc. also. How do you think my approach should be, i see you talk a lot about Warriot diet aswell, could this be something for me ? During the low carb days, how many g carbs are we talking about? and how many calories? how many % should come from protein and fat? on high carb days, how many calories? what are the best carb sources? im really week for chocklade and bread :p chocklade has a lot of fat so thats no good. Any other inputs etc for my goals, would be really really great

thanx again for awesome site

Al,

Thanks for the compliment. Putting together an exact diet plan is tough without knowing all of the variables. Read the diet articles on my site and you will be able to come up with a great one. Read the comments as well.

Hey Rusty,

I love your site. Steering people in the right direction. I had a question though about my diet. I am a male and am not overweight. I workout, but have extra fat in the chest area, so my muscles are not as defined as I would like them to be. I saw the e-book for sale, but seems a little expensive. I was wondering what a good diet would be to loose that extra fat. (Don't really have fat in stomach area to loose, just chest area). Thanks for your help

Brandon,

I would suggest a mixed approach. Do fruit on some days and salads on the other days. If you are feeling extra fatigued and need energy it is fine to eat fruit. It digests well and is a steady source of energy. I never realized how amazing fruit made my body feel until I began eating it on an empty stomach with no other food. It is wonderful!

Sounds good. Another quick question. I was reading your article about fruit. Would eating fruit and berries during the day and then one big meal at night with a salad and protein be to many carbs on low-carb days? Fruit is great (tastes great, good for you, etc) but it is high in carbs. However, considering the source of the carbs, would it be okay? Or should someone just stick with light salads during the day if A-following a warrior diet type approach and B-doing low-carb?

I basically do a very similar eating pattern. It works very well. Give it a shot.

What are your thoughts of this idea of mine. Follow low-carb days Mon-Fri (this also happens to be the days I follow a IF/Paleo-like diet) then on Sat and Sun (when I go off the IF/Paleo) go high-carb. Basically a 5:2 ratio. I like how this will work with my schedule since I take the train down on Friday nights to spend the weekend with my girlfriend. And I bet it will help with my fat loss goals. However, is it to extreme? Too much? Im not sure...

Too much? Im not sure…

Caligirl,

I wish it was tough for me to eat 1,000 calories in one sitting. I could eat 4,000+ if there weren't any negative consequences.

If you have a really tough time getting 1,000 calories, add calorie dense foods like nuts and avocado to your meals. If that doesn't work...consider a small breakfast early in the morning along with your dinner later in the day.

The name of my e-book is "top secret" (even to me...I haven't really decided on a name yet). I'm so busy helping people on my blog that I haven't progressed as far as I would like. My priorities are to help you guys first and work on the book during my "down time".

Cheers!
